YES! I Want Deadly DoublesThe problem isn't that your hands aren't fast enough.
You’ve probably played thousands of double strokes. Maybe tens of thousands. You know what a good double stroke is supposed to sound like.
But when you actually try to play one fast and clean, something breaks down. The second stroke gets weaker. One hand falls apart before the other. You tense up as soon as you try to go faster.
So you do what most drummers do. Practice them faster. Grip a little tighter. Try a little harder. Force the second stroke.
Or you let the stick bounce and hope the second stroke somehow comes out even.
Maybe that works for a while…until you hit the same wall again. And that’s the frustrating part. Because you understand what you’re trying to do.
You’re practicing. You’re putting in the time. You’ve probably watched enough double-stroke videos to know what good technique is supposed to look like.
So why won’t your hands just DO IT?!
Here’s the problem:
You can’t fix a technique mistake you can’t see.
Sometimes you think your hand is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do…but your fingers are squeezing. Your wrist is moving too much. Your grip is fighting the rebound. And because you’ve been playing that way for so long, it feels normal.
That’s what makes technique mistakes so hard to fix on your own.
You practice what feels right. But “feels right” doesn’t always mean good technique. And because it feels normal, you practice it again. And again. And again. Until the bad technique gets drilled in even deeper.
Because practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.
That’s why more YouTube videos and more of the same practice aren’t the answer. The problem isn’t that your hands aren’t fast enough…
You just haven’t learned the open-close technique properly yet.
What If Faster Doubles Required LESS Effort?
Deadly Doubles™ is a live, hands-on 2-hour workshop where I’ll teach you the open-close technique from the ground up. Not just by showing you what it looks like when I do it.
You’re going to get your sticks out and learn the technique with me. We’ll slow it down. Break it apart. Build it back up. And work through the five stages that make fast, clean doubles feel easy.
And because it’s live, I’ll be watching you play and giving you feedback as we go.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll understand the open-close technique, learn what good technique is supposed to feel like in your own hands, and know exactly how to practice it after the workshop so your doubles become cleaner, faster, and effortless.
Notice what I didn’t say. I’m not going to promise you’ll “master” a new technique in two hours. You won’t. Great technique takes practice.
But there’s a massive difference between spending the next six months practicing something you HOPE is correct…
And finally knowing:
“Ahhh. THAT’S what my hands are supposed to be doing.”
So instead of spending years drilling the same bad habits deeper, you’ll know what you’re aiming for and how to practice the open-close technique the right way.
Â
This workshop is for you if:
You know what a double stroke is, but your hands still don’t play it the way you want.Â
Maybe your second stroke gets weaker when you speed up. Maybe your doubles sound uneven. Maybe your left hand never feels quite as good as your right. Maybe you can play them at one tempo, but the second you push the speed, everything tightens up.
Or maybe you’ve been practicing doubles for YEARS and quietly wondering why something this basic still feels harder than it should.
You don’t need to be an advanced drummer. And you definitely don’t need to “get your doubles better” before you come.
You just need to be willing to slow things down, look closely at what your hands are actually doing, and rebuild your technique properly.
If you’re looking for a bunch of new exercises or a magic trick that doubles your speed overnight, this probably isn’t for you. We’re going to do something much more useful:
You’ll learn the technique now so the speed follows naturally.
The 5 Stages of Deadly Doubles™
There’s a progression your hands need to go through before the open-close technique starts feeling natural. If you skip the early stages, you end up compensating later with tension, squeezing, or brute force. That’s why we’re going through all five stages together.
STAGE 1: Build the Right Grip
Before we worry about speed, we need to make sure your hands aren’t fighting the sticks. We’ll start with the grip and hand position that lets the stick move freely without losing control.Â
This is where we start getting rid of the tension that makes everything else harder.
STAGE 2: Tai Chi Mode
Now we slow the open-close technique WAY down. Painfully slow. Almost ridiculously slow.
That’s the point. Tai Chi Mode lets you break the technique into pieces and feel what your hands are supposed to be doing. Because when you play too fast, it’s easy to hide bad technique behind speed.
This is often where the first lightbulb goes on.
“Ohhhhhh. THAT’S what my hands are supposed to be doing.”
STAGE 3: Build the Mechanics
Once you can play open-close correctly at slow speeds, we start speeding it up. You’ll learn how to increase your speed without bringing all that tension back.Â
Instead of forcing speed out of your hands, we build the mechanics that let speed happen.
STAGE 4: Teach Your Hands the FEELING
Understanding open-close technique intellectually isn’t enough. Your hands need to know what good technique feels like. So we’ll repeat it correctly until that feeling starts becoming familiar.
Because you don’t want to sit there thinking: “Open… close… open… close…”
You want to play some damn good doubles.
STAGE 5: Put It On the Drums
Then we take the technique off the pad and put it on the drums. Because you’re not here to get good at exercises on a practice pad.
You want better doubles when you PLAY.
Â
You Can’t Fix a Technique Mistake You Can’t See
This is one of the biggest problems with trying to learn technique from videos.
A video can show you what MY hands are doing. It can’t show you what YOUR hands are doing wrong.
Sometimes you’ll swear you’re copying the open-close technique exactly…but your pinky is doing something strange. Your wrist is stiff. Your fingers are squeezing. Or you’re making one tiny mistake that throws the whole technique off.
That’s why Deadly Doubles™ is live.
I’ll be watching you play and giving feedback throughout the workshop, so I can spot technique mistakes and help you fix them on the spot.
You’re not just watching another free YouTube lesson and spinning your wheels.
You’re practicing the technique live with me.
One drummer who went through my open-close teaching said: “I learned much more in this video seeing you helping with the motion to really understand what I’ve done wrong.”
Another said: “We can learn so much from not only observing someone instructing us in the right way but by you correcting errors we might not see in ourselves.”
Exactly. Because sometimes the thing holding your doubles back isn’t something you need to practice harder.
It’s a technique mistake you need somebody else to SEE.
Â
➤ Find Out What’s REALLY Slowing Your Hands Down
You’ll measure your speed and tension before we make a single change, and discover how to eliminate that tension.Â
➤ The Tensionless Method
We’ll workshop your problem pattern over the course of 90 minutes, breaking down your technique until you can play it faster, cleaner and with 75% less tension by the end.
➤ The 15-Minute Grip Reset
You’ll change how you hold and move the sticks, so you can relax your grip, move more freely and get more from every stroke with less effort.
➤ Stop Fighting the Rebound
You’ll use less energy to play the same notes by letting the stick do the work. When I taught Marc this concept, he called it the “skeleton key to a lot of doors in my playing.”
➤ Find the Hidden Tension Before It Slows You Down
Learn to spot tension as it starts to creep in, so you can catch it before your playing gets stiff, sloppy or stuck.Â
➤ Make Faster Feel Easier
Feel what happens when speed comes from better movement instead of more force.
➤ Practice Doesn’t Make Perfect. Practice Makes Permanent.
Every practice session teaches your hands something… and practicing tense, sloppy movements can lock those bad habits in. So instead, we’ll teach your hands the technique you actually want.
➤ The Perfect Practice Cycle
You’ll learn exactly how to take the good habits you learn in class and make them stick, for good.
➤ Stop Thinking So Hard!
Bring everything together so you can spend less time thinking about your grip, wrists and strokes…and more time playing music. Â

What does "effortless" actually feel like?
Here’s how other drummers describe the difference:
Roger
“I’m finding performing is becoming more and more effortless. I don’t have to think about what I’m doing. It just rolls out and I’m able to be in the moment.”
Owen
“The results were immediate and much cleaner!”
Brian
“In just this short time I’m feeling sooooo much more relaxed.”
Mireya
“I used to have sore wrists frequently… I can’t even remember the last time I had sore wrists, which is amazing!”
From fighting his hands to playing on autopilot
When Darren came to me, he was practicing constantly. But when he pushed his speed, the tension was killing his hands. His playing got uneven. His left hand started falling apart.
He told me:
“I practice, practice, and practice, but I don’t get any better.”
So we backed things up, and totally rebuilt his grip. In just 30 days Darren took his singles from 50 BPM to 200 BPM. But speed wasn’t his biggest breakthrough. Here’s how he described his playing afterward:
“Now I’m so much more relaxed when I play. I play so much more effortlessly!”
When your technique stops demanding all your attention…You get to play drums again.

Meet your drum coach
Hey, I’m Dimitri Fantini.
For more than 20 years, I’ve been obsessed with what makes great drumming feel effortless… and how to teach that feeling to other drummers.
I’m a professional drummer and educator who has taught more than 20,000 drummers, developed drum education with Paiste Cymbals, and taught masterclasses alongside some of the world’s top players.Â
But my favorite drummers to work with aren’t professionals. They’re people who simply love playing drums. Some have been playing for a few years. Some for 10, 20 or 30. Some even longer. And I see the same thing all the time:
They can’t seem to play what they hear in their head.
It’s frustrating. And very often, a few small things in their technique are making everything harder than it needs to be.
That’s what Effortless Hands™ is about.
Because the point of great technique isn’t to sit behind the kit thinking about technique. It’s to play what you hear in your head. You hear something. And your hands play it.
Â
“But I've been playing for years...
Good.
This work can matter just as much after decades behind the kit. In fact, the longer you play, the easier it is for bad habits to become your normal way of playing.
Even though Roger had been drumming for 60 years and played around 1,000 shows, he completely overhauled his playing when we rebuilt his technique from the ground up.
“I’m finding performing is becoming more and more effortless.”
Owen had already been playing for 11 years when I made a few changes to his technique and he said:
“My doubles have improved tenfold.”
So the question isn’t how many years you’ve played. It’s this:
Are your hands doing what you want them to do?
If you tense up when you push the tempo…if your grip gets tighter when something gets hard…if you can hear things you still can’t play…
Come join us.
